My artistic process is a research from present until ancient myths and into our hopes of the human being.
By direct shaping with the hands and with the look from distance by photography I study the opposing but connected layers of the human beeing: strength for love as well as for combat readiness which moves and shocks me.
In this Installtion I express the fear of a fatal interaction between masculinity, heroism and the possibitity of war. It developed between fascination and dismay. In this field of unresolved tension I tried to understand the complexity. Corresponding my work is multilayered. My photography questions the torso, quotes it, leafs through, recalls and recounts. The male torso looks like a fragment of the past, seems perfect and incomplete at the same time, and is perhaps therefore very human? Or is he just recently formed by earth and hopes for perfection?
Today the spirit of fighting and self-sacrificing mark a special physical picture of heroism again.
We know it from ancient myths, but also from the propaganda of the Nazi era.
For example: especially we spectators exaggerate the male athlete in a popular figurehead, which points far beyond the old Olympic thoughts. Day-to-day archaic images have a presence in words and images in the media. They raise the desire for a superhero, invulnerable .
Should he be ready to fight again? for self-sacrificing, for what?
